  3. Hi Lauren
It was nice meeting you this morning at the airport. I have heard about you from your grandma over the years and now I got to meet you. Just wanted to say have a great time in Guatemala and I’m praying that you will be blessed as much as the people of Guatemala. As you have heard, the work you will be doing really makes a difference in so many lives. When the days get difficult and tiring remember that you have many, many people praying to get you through. Have a great trip and stay healthy!!
    Deb Door (Jason’s mom)

  4. Hi Lauren I hope you are having some fun. Please get some sleep! You know what you dad said about you & sleep!! You are on my mind all the time. I love you

  5. Hello Everyone!–We made it safe and sound to Guatemala, I have definitely seen what a beautiful place this is in the few short hours that we have been here. On the way back from the airport we saw a few unfortunate accidents, one resulting in a roll over and one that was about a 7 car pile up!

After about a 45 min to an hour drive to reach our destination for the next week, we received our living assignments and a few of us took this day to catch up on some rest and others to just lay around and relax.

I am sure tomorrow is going to be another great day, the weather is beautiful about 75 degrees, and not so humid!

I’ll be sure to keep all of you updated on what we have accomplished tomorrow.

To all of you who have posted comments thank you so much, please continue to pray for our team- it’s truly a great one I can tell!

I love and miss all of you so much!

    Lauren*

  13. Wow! let me just start off by saying that! Today was incredible it started off early with waking up at 6 AM! then had some breakfast, a few minutes for devotion and off we went! The village is truly a-mazing, the children are so happy! When we all first arrived all we wanted to do was play with them, one girl had a bag of candy to give out to the children, she only wanted to give out a couple but all the children of the village soon started running over saying aqui aqui! dulce dulce!- which means right here- candy! it was cute, she tried to save a couple pieces but within minutes the bag of candy was ripped out of the girls hand! ha but after that little adventure we soon realized we had to do the work we came here to accomplish! Today was a long joyous day, now I can say I know how to build a house! ha =) Today was definitely a long-tiring day, dinner is awaiting and I have yet to shower! ha!

Grandma and Aunt Cheri- I love you both and things here are fabulous, I cant wait to see the both of you before I go home- I have so many stories to tell you =) Love you*

Blake- of course I remember you, the group is doing great and I hope you’re continuing to pray for the group, getting to know your dad is definitely a blast and I am sure it would be if you were here! Take care Blake!

Stevey- Well…time is going by!…lets just say that…I have taken so many pictures and I have so much to tell you! It’s amazing here, I hope everything is going well back in AZ and the weather is cooling off-ha next time I am definitely getting an international thingy set up! ha ha but hope your day went well..I will try to write you later if I can- I miss you love* =) sweetdreams*

  14. Hi Honey! Sorry it took your dad and I a day to send you a messsage, you know how we are with the computer (especialy your dad). It took us a while to figure out how this worked! We had to call Gramma…We miss you and love you very very much and are so proud of you and what you’re doing. We’re glad you got there safe and are enjoying this new experience. We think about your every day and can’t wait to see you and hear the deatils aobut your adventage! Can’t’ wait to hear from you. Love always XOXO Dad and Chris (smiley face, don’t know how to that!)

  15. Hi Lauren
It sounds like your first building day went well and that your singing/team time was very emotional for everyone who loved Melissa. As difficult as that is it is also wonderful to be able to share stories and memories and laughter since we know that Melissa loved to laugh! We pray that you find this trip to Guatemala a time of reflection but also a time to grow and know that Christ Jesus is walking right with you. Isaiah 40:28-31
    Mike and Deb Door

We miss you and love you lots xoxoxoxox

  19. Hey Mom, it’s me Bailey, yes and Beau too. I’m having my other Mom write this, cuz I have a hard time with the keybaord, my paws are pretty BIG . I would appreicate a full report of the progress that has been made over the last couple of days. If it’s up to my standards, I won’t chew your purse when you get home!

  20. Hello everyone!! todays progress was a great one! We finished building our houses- and stuck-od? the houses =) that wasn’t exactly fun! the best part was being able to build stronger relationships with the children and seeing the smiles on their faces! Today has been a long day…there is much to report but I am sure I will tell you all about it when I get home, God is truly watching over all of us and with all of your prayers and love our trip has been a special one! 21. Hello Lauren!!! So its day 3 now and from the pics you looks like you all are having a fabulous time. You look like quite the homebuilder too 😉 My week went by pretty quick and enjoyed another nice week at work…I haven’t done a thing yet lol. On my way home I made a detour and went and pick myself up an iphone. Of course it’s strictly a business deal and just put the thing up on ebay. They are amazing though! Anyhow I hope everything is going great for ya…not a day goes by when im not thinkin about you. It is going to be a nice relaxing weekend that includes a haircut. 🙂 Take Care

  22. oh yeah if you use : instead of = for the eyes it makes those smilie faces lol. lesson of the day 😀

  23. Hello everyone!
Well it’s day 5 now and we got to sleep in a little bit this morning- a couple people in our group got sick yesterday but both are feeling well today! Kevin our youth pastor is now sick- for those of you who are praying could you please continue- it’s such a blessing and so encouraging! 🙂 Today for breakfast is french toast that Nate-one of our team members is making! Soon we are to do our morning devotions and then off we are on a three hour bus ride to a medical clinic to have a fiesta with the little children and spread the word of our Lord Jesus Christ. We will be there all night till about 1:00AM, we will be showing a film when the sun is down about Jesus and hoping many people come forward to give their heart, love, and faith to Jesus Christ. Things here are simply amazing! I am happy to report all of the people of the village that we have been building houses for they all converted except for one old gentleman that was true to his Catholic church. While doing the devotions for my family- I could feel god right there, my family had no doubt in their mind they wanted to be Christians it was great! The little boy who had been ran over is doing fine and we continue to pray for him. We went to his home yesterday and gave him a soccer ball that we had all signed and a bag of dulce!(candy) It was the best gift he had ever received 🙂

God and all of your prayers are with us! It’s truly a trip of a lifetime.

Mom & Dad I love you so much! I miss you both 🙂 and I can’t wait to see you! and show you all the pictures! My camera died 😦 so I wont be able to take anymore pictures!!! but…I had already taken over a 100 and something so there are still plenty to show! again, I love you both! tell Bailey and Beau I miss them! Hopefully Bailey doesn’t bark at me when I get home since I haven’t seen him in a while haha

Steve-o…So I am confused…you bought an iphone and its going on ebay? lol or was that a joke? 🙂 I am glad to hear you had a good rest of the week at work, I hope you had a good friday night last night! I haven’t been feeling well these past couple of days- but I have been praying that I get better 🙂 Only 3 more days sweetie- I can’t wait to see your big smile and just hear your voice! Have a good night- I miss you love

  24. Well!–I just wrote this long huge thing and it deleted so here I am writing for a second time! 🙂 YAY! So it’s day 5 here now and we got to sleep in a little bit this morning instead of having to wake up at 6AM it was 6:45AM! yay! This morning’s breakfast consisted of french toast which one of our team members Nate Door made- he’s in culinary school and a great soon to be chef! 🙂 We have had a couple people become sick the last few days, with everyons prayers I am happy to report they are doing well now! Kevin- our youth pastor became sick last night and will not be traveling with us this morning- so if we could continue to pray for the team and an extra special one for him, all of your prayers have such a great affect on the group! It’s amazing and this past week I have seen that! Yesterday was our last day in the village we have been visiting for the past three days- we presented the families with their houses and gifts we had prepared for them, while looking into their faces as they received their gifts it was as if I was looking at GOD. I got the Jesus bumps 🙂 All of the families we gave houses to converted to Christianity except for one old gentleman who was true to his Catholic faith. After the devotions with the families we had a fiesta with all the little children of the village consisting of a pinata(?) football, and little other games for all of them! When they broke the pinata it was like a wars zone, one kid even punched the other in the face! Candy is all they wanted- they are so happy with just that, incredible I must say! It was a great day yesterday! Today we are off to a medical clinic about 3 hours away one way to have another fiesta with all the children and to show them a movie about Jesus Christ, we will be there till 1AM so it’s going to be a late night, but we get to sleep in again tomorrow 😀 never thought I’d be this excited to be able to sleep in! Words can’t describe the feelings and emotions I have went through while being on this mission trip, I have seen GOD in so many ways, and learned my relationship with GOD is there whenever I want to build it. I have definitely built it with this trip and I will continue to!

Mom and Dad- I miss you both so much, and I hope everything back home is well, I am sure dad is mad because it’s so hot and mom is just mom 🙂 My camera died yesterday and failed to remember my charger! After all we did to get it to michigan! ha- I guess my blonde-ness showed a little more haha…I can’t wait to be home and tell you all about it! I love you both and miss you so much!

Grandma- I am so fortunate to be able to go on a trip like this, I have learned so much about God and my faith. It’s amazing. It’s life changing 🙂 I miss you and can’t wait to see you and tell you all the wonderful stories! I’ll call you when we arrive in Houston, we are to depart here Tuesday morning at 6:30 AM so we should arrive to houston around ten or so! I love you tell Aunt Cheri I love her too 🙂

Stevey-I am glad to hear that your work week went well..I am sure this next coming week will be a little more busy because it’s the first week of the month! So..I am confused, you bought an iphone but put it on ebay? or was that a joke? 🙂 I might be having a blonde moment haha but anyways I need to get going we are going to be leaving soon only 3 more days sweetie I can’t wait to just hear your voice and be content with that! haha I miss your smile and you making me laugh have a good rest of the weekend I’ll hear from you soon 🙂

    I love you all!

  33. Hello everyone! I am sad to report that our mission trip to guatemala is soon coming to a close..with about 20 hours left here I am getting excited yet sad to leave! Yesterday was quite an adventure, we traveled to a village about 3 and half hours away, we turned off the main highway to a road that seemed endless, we took a rocky, bumpy, muddy, pothol-e road to this small village of about 50 families. The little children were not as forceful when they say the candy..some of the kids when I went to give them a piece backed away as if they didn’t deserve it. It was sad. We passed out meds to the families in need, I helped out with that for a while and after I got bored I went to play with the little kids, playing things like Perro, Perro, Gato(Duck Duck Goose) and ring around the rosie. The little children were truly a blessing. After we finished up with the meds we showed the people of the village a movie and sang a few songs, and I was surprised that many of the people of the village converted =) It was a blessing, it started down pouring during, God was right there, I got the Jesus bumps a few times 🙂

On the way home we definitely had an adventure, while we were riding on this bumpy, muddy, rocky road we came to a tree that had been struck by lightening we are assuming judging by the size of it, it was massive, we couldn’t get through nor could we move the tree because it probably weighed over a ton. After about an hour of digging into the side of this mountain trying to make clear way, looking for rocks and several trial and errors, we ripped off a bumper of one of the vans and then made it all through. We arrived home at 3 AM and I am awake now yay! It’s only 9AM!

Today we are going to another village that they went to years previous then going to a mall they have here in Antingua to do some shopping 🙂 We leave here at 3:30 AM tomorrow! Please pray for us and our flight home.

I love you and miss you all so much- especially you mom and dad 🙂 Can’t wait to see you both! and show you all the pictures!

  34. Sounds like you are feeling better which is very good to hear. Last night looked as if it was quite the adventure…glad to hear you made it back safely. I hope your last day is unforgettable and that you have a safe flight back to Michigan. Ill see ya in a couple days 🙂

  38. Hi Lauren!
Your Uncle Jay sent this web site to me. I am so happy for you that you are experiencing such and awesome opportunity to help others. I think of you fondly often. Of course I have only memories of you as a young child of 4 and 5. You have grown into such a strong and beautiful women. I am so happy for that, though not surprised! I saw your request for prayers for a safe trip home. My prayers are with you right now, and always! Congradulations on making a great decision to help others. With Love, Shelley
