I know that there will be a lot of emotion as you think of Mel and her work there, but know that you are being held up in prayer by many, many people. May God give you what you need for each moment. My memories of Mel are so strongly tied to Guate, that it is hard for me to think she is not there phsically.     I will be praying for you this week in Guatemala! I am so ahppy for you that you get to experience serving there. I will never forget being there with Melissa and working with her building houses, mostly she just played wiht he kids =) Aaron always gave her a hard time about that.     I can relate to the diet Coke thing, isn’t that the best!! Maybe before the womens trip in January you could solve the lack of accessibility problem so I will be able to get my daily dose.
    How was your first building day? I bet you worked hard and then played hard with the village children too. Enjoy the singing tonight and know that Melissa is probably leading the choir of angels right along with you.

    I too can relate to the diet Coke thing – Coca-Cola Light just isn’t the same if it’s even available. Probably should have packed one whole duffel full of diet Coke! I know Kelly would be right there with you.
    It is so wonderful that you are able to make this trip. From all I’ve heard and read, it would make Melissa so proud!

  30. Dear Lori, Joni mentioned that you were in the same small group together and I had to admit, I almost expected God to work that out. Did you know that Melissa was Joni’s first small group RAD leader? I can still picture her sitting in our living room talking about how Guatemala changed her life forever. How amazing is our God?! Now he has brought you here to experience part of what made Melissa so on fire for Christ! Although you don’t really know me, I am committed to pray for you in a special way this week. I am sure that you will face emotions that most of us can’t comprehend, but I pray with confidence knowing that our God will walk with you though the highs and the lows!   38. Hi Lori, Today, while I was looking through my bible for verses to share with Kelsey, I came across the verses I read the day after Melissa died (I had noted it in the margin). I want to share them with you. “He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And he will be their peace.” Micah 5:4-5 Melissa, and now you, have partnered with the Lord in shepherding his flock to the ends of the earth. They will live securely.     Mikey and Sam just left. He slept 3 hours this afternoon. He can say Guatemala pretty well. I got a map for him to see so he told Sam that “regular Grandma” was in the orange place!
    On the map Guatemala is colored orange. I hope things are going well for you. I know this must be hard. I’m proud of you.

    We were so excited to hear that you are on Kevin’s building team, or I probably should say that Kevin is on you team!! We are thrilled that Kevin will be able to get to know you better as you build relationships among your team members. I will be praying for each person on your team two times a day. I will be praying for you specifically at noon and at midnight. Don’t worry – I am a night owl. Kevin also briefed us on the Grandma and Grandpa that your team is building your house for. We will be praying that God opens their hearts to you guys to build a relationship and then that they will open their hearts to God’s love and His gift of salvation – we so desire that their eternal “house” may be in heaven.   48. Mrs. Decator! I am overjoyed that you are able to go to Guatemala and experience the place for yourself-the place that Melissa grew to love and adore. I know this trip is going to change your life like it did mine and I am so happy that you have the opportunity to be there. There was a picture posted with you and a little girl and she is so adorable. It looks like you are having a wonderful time with the sweet little kids! I am also happy to hear the little boy whos leg got run over was ok..he was definently in my prayers last night along with the team. I think it is so neat that Melissa’s picture is hung in the base…how amazing is that! I bet it’s hard to see that everyday but at the same time a comfort knowing where she is and that someday we’ll all be there with her. I always thought that when I was in Guatemala that I was getting a glimpse into what Heaven was going to be like. The love and joy on everyone’s faces there makes it hard to feel anything else and I’m hoping you’re feeling that same feeling right now. I know God is usuing you in so many ways in Guatemala right now. He’s using you to be a witness to others and he’s working through you each and everyday as you pour your loving heart onto the people there. I hope you have a wonderful day today seeing that it is your last day in the village. If I’m right, you’re decorating and painting the inside of the houses today and then you’re dedicating them. The dedications are one of the most awesome parts of the trip. God is present in each and every house and amazing things will happen today. I pray that the rest of your days in Guatemala are wonderful and just remember that everyone back at home is praying for you..and not only during the week when you are in Guatemala but when you are home as well. You are in my families prayers and we thank God for giving you the courage and strength to get through each and everyday. I will continue to pray for the strength in the coming days as well. I’m hoping to go back to Guatemala sometime soon..maybe you as well..and that would be awesome. Again, everyone back at home loves you and is praying for you.   53. Hello everyon!It is Saturday morning (I had to ask, I didn’t know what day it is!) it is so beautiful again! We are packing medicine and going to a village three hours away today! I am excited. A few people are sick, so we hope that will pass soon!
    I have sen the last house Melissa built and her notes on the wall! It is vry good to be able to see that. It is very tough too! I have been taking walks right where she built her house and didn’t knowit!

    It is 0210 AM in Michigan – I told you I was a night owl – actually I am at work now and my patients are sleeping at the moment. The house/dedication/family pics are awesome! It has been fun to watch slabs of cement turn into actual houses! And now five houses are no longer just houses – each has become a HOME!!! I continue to pray for you at noon and midnight each day.   61. Hello everyone! We set up the medical cliinc yesterday! I can’t even comprehend how these people have to live! Very eye opening! We also saw the most awesome volcano erupt on the way home! I can’t believe I was lucky enough to see that! (not really erupt) just spray lava all over, I guess)
