  1. You could have suffocated…..have a great week….we are jealous we are not going too….Dixon says hi. bob and carole

  2. Ditto what Bob & Carole said. Don’t forget to get your mom placemats & remember that “no” is the same in Spanish as it is in English. Convenient, eh? You will be “fluent” in no time, I promise. I can’t wait to hear everything when you get back!

  25. Dear Spencer –
Off the top – I need to say this first – SOCCER!!!! Ya know that Kevin brought a FOOTBALL with him!!!!!! He is supposed to be catching “tight end passes” from those Guatemalan kids!! Anyway, have fun!! Kevin let us know that you are on his “smaller” team. He is totally thrilled with your team! Please know that I will be praying for each person on your team individually two times a day. I will be praying for you specifically at 10 AM and 10 PM. Kevin also shared a little background on the Grandpa and Grandma that you are building your house for. We will be praying that they open their hearts to you guys to build a relationship with and then that they will open their hearts to God’s gift of salvation – we so desire that their eternal “house” will be in heaven. Stucco away today – stay safe, healthy, cool, and strong!
    Oor God Reigns!
Beth Vanden Bosch (and the rest of the V.B.’s)
    P. S. Take care of Kevin for us – you know how dramatic he can get!!!)

  26. Hey spence,
What a team you have, I hope the ladies are showing you how to work hard, I bet the country is beautiful, the way you described made it sound awesome!!! What a setting to worship and serve the Lord. It has been pretty quiet around here with everyone gone, I miss the continual singing from you. Sounds like the singing with the group was great the other night. Sorry we havent written, we couldnt find the updated comments, there will be plenty more coming now that we know where it is, thanks to Carol.

    Love you, Mom

  27. Hey Spencer!

    SPENCER

  30. Roger & Sue,
I just wanted to take a moment and let you know how much I am loving your son! He is doing such a great job! He has the most beautiful “girlfriend”, little Gloria! She is 5 and can’t stay away from Spencer. SHe loves him and he loves dancing with her. He is working hard but with a smile on his face and he is making a huge differance in the lives of those he meets. You would be soooo very proud of him!
    Thank you for your prayers!
    Kristy

  31. Hey Spence,
It sounds like you are having sooo much fun and I am so happy! I knew you would love it. I can just imagine the singing . . .oh I wish I were there! It is just so cool to hear your updates. God is doing awesome things over there through you. You are awesome, I love you sincere kindness for others and your love for God really shines through. Keep up the great work!
    love and prayers,
    Leah
….yesterday when I was reading the updates Blake said, “see spencer” and I clicked on you and he started laughing at your pic. Then I left the room and all of a sudden he ran out of the room crying and saying “no spencer” cuz he got scared of your picture . . it was funny =) anyway, you are a part of his bedtime prayer =)
    bye!

  32. Spinner, putting a bag over your face is the only way you’ll ever be cute! I hope you are having a wonderful trip in Gaute. You are such a blessing in my life. Thanks for being my brother! Tell Bosch I say hi! Love you bro!

  33. Spencer:
Just a note: Oden went #1 in the NBA draft (surprise, surprise); Durant was #2. Three guys from Florida State went in the top 9. Not bad for a son from a professional tennis player–(Noah)! You’re probably more interested in golf, though; biggest news there is that Tiger’s baby Sam is adorable! All that aside, I know from watching you with others that you have a big heart so it must be bursting by now with all the attention you’re giving and receiving from the little children. Know that the time you spend, and the love you show will have an eternal impact! How fun it must be to witness that firsthand!
    The Dooleys
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us….
Expect great things tomorrow as you dedicate your home!

  34. Spence, sounds like you are having a great time. I’m just back from being out of town. Looks like you could use a little more muscle on your team! (Too bad I couldn’t be there.)
Love you lots and do your best!

  35. Hey Spencer.
Sure is good to hear how excited you are about your work and the people you’re with! I know you love hearing from all of us, but we love hearing from you guys too!.. By the way…tell my kid to kick it in alittle in the “reply” part of this blog! She’s a slacker and you have permission to get on her about it! Hahahaha. Careful, she kicks. 🙂
Blessings to you in your work, better be careful with little Gloria though…you’ll have to eventually say goodbye… let her down easy 😉
God’s working powerfully through you. Be proud of yourself for using your hands and feet, doing His work with His people. Their lives will never be the same because of what you are doing for them. Show them in your words and actions what an awesome God we have.
    Praying for you often.
    Mr. Rosema

  36. Spence, Kyle Visser did not get drafted. To bad for him.

  37. ITS 10:11 P.M. AND I CANT STOP LAUGHING WITH ROSS, LARA, SANDY AND MYSELF….ITS HISTARICAL……..THANK YOU TO MRS. DOOLEY FOR THE NBA DRAFT UPDATE…VERY HELPFUL AND TO MR. ROSEMA I WILL HAVE LARA KICK IT IN (SHE’S ADDING ONE AS I TYPE)……WE HAD DOMINOES PIZZA FOR DINNER TONIGHT… A LITTLE DIFFERENT BUT STILL PIZZA…WOW

THE CRAZIEST THING HAPPENED TODAY…A LITTLE BOY GOT PUSHED UNDERNEATH THE VAN WHILE WE WERE LEAVING AND DAN HAD NO IDEA AND HE RAN OVER HIS FOOT/LEG AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS FOR SURE BROKEN……2000 LBS OF PRESSURE AND WE RAN OVER A LITTLE BOYS LEG……..DAN FELT AWEFUL AND TOOK HIM TO THE HOSPITAL ( HERE WHEN PEOPLE RUN OVER OTHERS THEY USUALLY END UP IN JAIL) WELL IT TURNS OUT THAT THE BOY WAS OK AND NOTHING WAS BROKEN….THAT WAS YOU GUYS AND YOUR PRAYERS……..

ANOTHER AMAZING THING…..IT RAINED ALL DAY RIGHT WHEN WE LEFT FROM THE VILLAGE AND IT NEEDED TO BE DRY FOR THE STUCCO TO STICK……DAN DROVE TO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT BY THE MISSION BASE AND IT WAS POURING HERE….BUT WHEN HE BOUGHT THE BOY BACK UP TO THE VILLAGE THE STREETS WERE DRY…..NO RAIN!

GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS SO KEEP THEM COMING,
    SPENCER

    Mrs. Berens

  39. Spencer, thanks for sharing updates on the story, I was really concerned, but God just had that entire situation under his control didn’t he? Wow, the whole thing gives me chills. You have great updates, and I knew you would, so you keep it up. We love hearing from everyone and when I sit at the computer I can almost feel like I am connected to all of you, just through this. Wish I could be drinking a good cup of Guatemala coffee right now…hope you like it. Have a wonderful day and keep smiling. Prayers and love, The Pettijohns

  40. Spencer,
Thanks for all your updates – we don’t hear much from Kelly other than she’s washing her hands, so I’m assuming she’s hopefully doing her job! It is so phenomenal reading what awesome work you all are doing and how it’s impacting you. I’m sure the trip is going to be over before you even realize it. Enjoy each and every minute and hope you stay well. May have to “hire” you to work with Kevin on his golf when you return!!

As far as the bag goes – the bandanna is much better looking on your head than the sucker bag!!!

    Have a great time!!!
    Love you all – Jodi

    SPENCER

  43. spence spence…sounds like you are having an incredible time in guatemala…i think that you should teach the village kids how to sing POWER! christina should be able to help you….as I am writing this I am tying you with christina in # of wall posts so I am probably going to have to go back and write on hers now…keep an eye on her. from the posts it sounds like you found yourself a new girl friend…dont give up were still trying!

  46. Arf Arf When are you coming back home. This bed is way to big for me by myself and it’s cold. I need some body heat. Your friendly dog who misses you. Ivy

  47. Hi Spencer, It is So good to hear from you. I love reading all the messages from everyone. Makes me really really interested in going sometime. You have been a wealth of information and it gives us a real good idea what is going on. The pictures are awesome. What beautiful country. I have been praying for you all so much. When I drive around in the jeep I leave my radio off and pray for each of you individually. It works and I’m not even speeding. Dad is hitting some sticks today. Jayne Schemper is getting married tonight and Dad and I are going to the wedding. Graham is hanging with Nick V.W. for the weekend and Marcus and about eight budies are coming up to cottage Sat. and Sun. We will be back Monday but hope to get updates on Dad’s phone. We will leave a message tonight when we get home and in the morning.
We love you so much and are so proud of the work you are doing for Christ. Adios to you

  48. Hey Spencer, Thanks for all the wonderful updates! It is great to hear what is going on down there. We will continue to pray for safety and for health for the team! Thanks for making me laugh when I clicked on your name and saw your picture! You are a riot! I will be sure to have the boys see that. 🙂 Take care! In Christ, Jana Stob

  49. Spencer,
Thanks for keeping us updated – it seems like Kelly hasn’t been on much. I’m really hoping she too isn’t getting sick as Amber and Rachel are in her group. I know Alexa’s mom and I keep checking your sight to get the most up to date details, so needless to say – you’ll probably win the competition.
Stay healthy and enjoy this wonderful opportunity. Maybe next time your parents and Mr. Berens and me can go down there – it would be a great change from staying at places like Bay Harbor!!! Not sure if the guys could do it! Sue – what do you think? Should we make this our challenge??
Take care and hope all goes well.
Hugs and kisses to you all from: The Berens family including Aspen, Jack and Rudy – a lot of slobbery kisses!!!

  53. Morning Spencer Martin, Well it is a beautiful day in Grandville. No mountains, no volcano’s no Gloria but beautiful anyway. 56. Spencer! I’m glad you are having an amazing time in Guatamala! I’m praying for you guys and dont get sick!

  57. Hi Rog & Sue,
I just had to take a moment and tell you how awesome your son is! It has been such a joy watching him as he experiences everything. Yesterday, Spence was my God sighting! Our home was on the top of a steep hill and our grandparents who are 84 &82. Spence was sooooooo worried about them he decided to carve stairs out of the hill. There he was on his hands and knees, using a sharpened corn stalk to carve steps out of the hill! When I saw the completed stairs I simply WEPT! What a tender heart and he is such a servant!!! I know you are soo proud of him. Thank you for raising such a fine young man! I absolutely LOVE him!
    with much love, Kristy

  58. Dear Spencer-
Your house/dedication/family pics are awesome! It has been so fun to watch slabs of cement turn into actual houses! And now five houses are no longer just houses – each has become a HOME!! I continue to pray for you each day at 10AM and 10PM. I hope that those who have fallen ill are beginning to feel somewhat better. Remember to keep an eye on Kevin for us – I am sure that he needs supervision!!! He doesn’t write too much – I don’t know what’s wrong with that boy!! Love to all, Beth Vanden Bosch (and the rest of the V.B.’s)
